By employing the nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLSE) to deal with pulse propagation through laser crystal and independently taking into account of 4-prism dispersion,we have successfully simulated the pulse duration properties in a self-consistent scheme for a Ti:sapphire laser. Our simulation is distinguished from other algorithms by closely monitoring the evolution of pulse and getting a stabel and convergent pulse in the end.It is concluded that second order dispersion compensation is mandatory and shortening the length of the laser medium is much more effective than pumping it with higher power in producing transform-limited pulses.
