In this paper,the development of IP over WDM optical network is introduced.Then the issues related to its survivability are discussed.These issues include the concept and classification of survivability in optical layer,the advantage and disadvantage of each class,the coordination between IP/MPLS layer and WDM layer,such as avoiding contention between the two layers individual survivability schemes,sharing of spare capacity,avoiding failure propagation.
