Abstract:A simple method to mechanically produce tunable phase-shifted long-period fiber gratings(LPFGs) in single mode fiber(SMF) was reported.Through photoelastic effect,an LPFGs can be mechanically induced by a grooved plate.Various phase-shifts are achieved by controlling the space between two sinusoidal-grooved plates with the screw. The transmission spectrum can be also tuned by the controllable external applied pressures and the resonant wavelength loss tuning range is about 16 dB.This technique is of much flexibility to tailor the spectrum for extensive spectral shaping requirement and erbium-doped fiber amplifier(EDFA) gain flattening.
