Abstract:With the view to investigating the general optical fiber self-diagnosing system,the correlative theories and technology for manufacturing and calibration of the fiber optic smart layer(FOSL) have been studied extensively.FOSL with built-in extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometric(EFPI) and fiber bragg gating(FBG) sensors are fabricated with dielectric substrate of polyimide.Fiber optic sensors embedded inside FOSL are in the good condition in the process of manufacturing and the structural strength of the host composites with built-in FOSL is not to degrade obviously.Furthmore,EFPI and FBG sensors embedded inside FOSL are performed by using the four-point bending test.The test results present that the strain by EFPI sensor is linear to loading of bending beam and the wavelength shift of Bragg grating is excellent linear with strain of bending beam.Both EFPI and FBG sensors could be embedded in FOSL and used for monitoring strain and temperature simultaneously.Active and real time monitoring system would be established by fiber optic sensors networks and self-diagnosing modules embedded in FOSL.
