Abstract:A novel wideband tunable optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) based on the tunable tr ue phae shift is proposed in this paper.A two-tap photonic microwave filter with a tunable complex coefficient an d a real coefficient is constructed using double lasers, double Mach-Zehnder mod ulators (MZMs) and two cascaded fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs).The complex coeffici ent is realized by the true phae shifter, and the real coefficient can be control led by the optical power. The reconfiguration of the photonic microwave filter is realized by adjusting the bias voltage applied on the MZM.When the system is cl osed,a microwave frquency will oscillate around the peak frequency of the bandpa ss filter, the long fiber will decrease the phae noise of the microwave signal,an d the short fiber will increase the mode spacing to keep a single mode oscillati ng in the loop. The peak frequency of the filter can be tuned by changing the bia s voltage according to the need of OEO.As a result, the output frequency of OEO c an be tuned from 5GHz to 10GHz,the tunability range is large but the method is simple.
