Ship-borne optical communication is significant as an important no de of the future free-space optical communication network.A special beacon tracking control strategy is designed fo r the ship platform. And then a ground communication terminal and a ship-borne terminal are designed based on the feat ures of ship-shore optical communication to conduct the tracking experiment and demon strate 155Mbit/s free-space optical communication. The beacon tracking data and received optical power data are reco rded. These data show that the ship-borne terminal has an x-axis tracking error of 3.5μrad (σ) and a y-axis error of 6.7μrad (σ),while the ground terminal has an x-axis tracking error of 1.7μra d (σ) and a y-axis error of 3. 9μrad (σ).The average received optical power of ship -borne terminal is -29.76dBm with standard deviation of 0.35dBm and that of ground term inal is -28.18dBm with standard deviation of 0.26dBm.The experimental results validat e that the tracking control strategy is suitable for ship-borne optical communi cation.
