A compact self-Q-switched erbium/ytterbium co-doped d ouble-cladding fiber (EYDF) ring laser is demonstrated.Using an EYDF as both the gain fiber and saturable absorber,a fi ber Bragg grating (FBG) as the wavelength-selective element,the laser can operate at the status of stable sel f-Q-switching with the central wavelength of 1539.80nm and narrow linewidth of 0.07nm.The self-Q-switching operation can keep in a wide pump power range from 376mW to 1208mW.As the pump power inc reasing,the pulse repetition rate can be continuously tuned from 7.40kHz to 64.2kHz.When the pump power reaches 1208mW,the largest pulse repetition rate of 64.2kHz can be achieved.The largest average output p ower of 81.3mW is obtained from the 90% port of the optic coupler.The shortest pulse duration and the largest singl e pulse energy of the Q-switched laser are 1.8μs and 1.65μJ,respectively.The self-Q - switching operation is stable with the radio-frequency signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of more than 60dB.
