Abstract:Video quality assessment (VQA) plays a n important role in development of video systems. In order to analyze the perform ance of video systems more effectively, this paper proposes a novel VQA metric ba sed on three dimensional discrete wavelet transform (3D-DWT) and human visual characteristic s.Firstly,we utilize 3D-DWT to decompose all the groups of frames (GoF) in video sequence. Then we calculate all sub-band sequences qualities in a GoF,and select appropriate sub-band qualities to combine as the GoF quali ty.Finally, considering human visual characteristics in temporal domain, such as average luminance and motion intensity in each GoF,we combine the GoF qualities together as video quality. In the proposed VQA model,we use 3D-DWT to describe temporal feature in videos, which overcomes the difficult issue in temporal description t o some extent.By applying the proposed model on LIVE video database, experimental results demonstrate that the linear correlation coefficient (LCC) between evaluation results and corresponding subjective qualities reaches 0.8.Meanwhile,the spearman rank order correlation coefficient (SROCC) between evaluation results and corres ponding subjective qualities reaches 0.79.Compared with some other relative models, the proposed VQA model is more consistent with subjective quality and can perform much better i n evaluation.
